DANBURY, Connecticut — About 100 people who live, work and have an interest in Downtown Danbury gathered together Thursday night at the unveiling of CityCenter’s new marketing campaign.
The purpose of the event, which was held at the new Kennedy Flats apartments in Danbury, “is to entice and encourage people to look at Danbury as a viable option when they are looking at the city as a place to invest in,” said Manny Carreras, a commissioner on the board of CityCenter.
PJ Prunty, executive director of CityCenter Danbury, addressed those in attendance with the question: “What are some things that come to mind when you think of Downtown Danbury?”
Prunty said that when he thinks of Downtown Danbury, the words “opportunity” and “potential” come to mind.
“We have focused on a marketing campaign aimed at attracting business owners and developers to the area. CityCenter Danbury literally and figuratively is the heart of Downtown Danbury,” Prunty said.
As part of CityCenter’s new marketing campaign, it will be conducting monthly reports, a digital media blitz and a Facebook campaign targeting small businesses, entrepreneurs, technology and startup companies, he said.
“At the end of the day, we are standing in $75 million worth of investment in our downtown,” Mayor Mark Boughton said.
One of the initiatives on the horizon for Downtown Danbury is to repave all of Ives Street with cobblestones. Another is to replace the dilapidated Tarrywile Castle with a “beautiful garden that all of us will be able to use,” Boughton said. “Tonight we are here to celebrate all the work we are doing.”
Tom Devine, chairman of the Board of CityCenter and owner of Two Steps restaurant in downtown Danbury, said CityCenter wants to attract restaurants, businesses and shops to the downtown area.
