Storrs, Conn.: The Connecticut Small Business Development Center (CTSBDC) and HEDCO graduated the inaugural students from the Side Street to Main Street Skills for Business Growth Program on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at HEDCO, Inc., 15 Lewis Street, Hartford, Connecticut.
The award winning Side Street to Main Street Skills for Business Growth Program is a pragmatic, structured, yet open-ended approach to development. It is created to help people who haven’t had formal business training to develop the attitudes, skills and qualities necessary for effective business success. The program is designed to develop an entrepreneur’s leadership ability, equally through interaction with an experienced instructor and with her or his peers.
“The Side Street to Main Street Program provides you with stones so you can cross your own river,” said Fernando Rosa, President and Chief Executive officer of HEDCO.
“This class formed friendships and a network that will allow for interaction and support for years to come,” commented Emily Carter, CTSBDC State Director.
The Side Street to Main Street Program is an intensive effort for participants, with homework frequently assigned for completion by the following session. The average participant can expect to spend from 3 to 4 hours each week outside of class to complete the homework assignments on time and in a quality fashion. Owning and running a small business is a demanding undertaking. The program and its homework assignments mirror the effort it will take to run your business on a daily basis.
The Side Street to Main Street Skills for Business Growth Program was facilitated by CTSBDC Business Advisor Denise Whitford, and is supported in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and HEDCO, Inc. This program is licensed from the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Middletown, Connecticut.
