5+ Years in Business
Kristin Delfau, EA has been busy. After leaving her former employer five years ago she launched a home-based insurance and tax preparation/planning business—Delfau Tax & Financial Services, LLC—while having her first child, bringing child number two into being and publishing a book in 2009 entitled Turbo-Mom’s Guide to Saving Money Without Wasting Time.
To ensure she launched a successful business, Kristin first contacted the Connecticut Small Business Development Center (CTSBDC) in 2008. Since then Kristin’s grown her client base from zero to 100, mostly through her website, client and colleague referrals, and by leveraging free online tools.
“I reconnected with CTSBDC in 2013 to build the insurance portion of my business and design a marketing plan to achieve that growth,” Kristin said. “It was time because my tax practice was thriving.”
Kristin accomplished a great deal with the help of CTSBDC business advisor Nelson Merchan. She updated her entire website and platform, optimized SEO and search terms, examined metrics to better attract more life and long term care insurance customers, as well as made new connections to other professionals to reach new clients.
With my CTSBDC advisors’ help, I’ve built a business model that allows me to understand what works best for my company and to grow each year at a sustainable rate.
“With my CTSBDC advisors’ help, I’ve built a business model that allows me to understand what works best for my company and to grow each year at a sustainable rate. I’ve also built relationships with clients and other professionals who value my work, creating valuable relationships for all involved which far exceed the tax and insurance realms. Moreover, I have a strong tax practice that is “right-sized” for my life that involves balancing family and work in a healthy way.”Go Back
